After graduating from the University of Cape Town, South Africa with his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree – an intensive six year program that is South Africa's equivalent of the Doctor of Medicine degree – Dr. Feldman served for 2 years in the South African Defense Force as a Medical Officer. After his military service, he was accepted into a 4 year Pediatrics residency program at Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town. Upon the completion of his residency, he went on to run a private practice for 5 years that covered general pediatrics, neo-natal, and pediatric intensive care. It was during this time that he developed a strong interest in developmental/behavioral pediatrics and sleep medicine. Dr. Feldman had the opportunity to pursue these interests when he immigrated to the United States in 1999. He completed a second residency in Pediatrics at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and was accepted into a 3 year fellowship in Behavioral/Developmental Pediatrics at the same institution. Over the course of this time, he also completed 5 years of training in pediatric sleep medicine.
After his fellowship training, Dr. Feldman took up the position of Medical Director of the Stramski Children's Developmental Center – an outpatient clinic of Miller Children's and Women's Hospital Long Beach. He launched the Sleep Disorders, International Adoption, and Fragile X programs to better serve the needs of the community. The Chronic Disease Program, which saw an average of 12 patients per week, quickly expanded into what is now the Behavior and Neurodevelopment Program – taking up to 100 patients weekly.
In 2016, Dr. Feldman saw a need for a solutions-based approach to sleep medicine and developmental/behavioral challenges. That year, he founded Ocean Sleep Medicine to serve his community in Southern California. Since then, the clinic has expanded into Ocean Medicine – a medical clinic that addresses sleep, pediatric development, and the medical needs of internationally adopted children.
Dr. Feldman is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. He was named 2010 Physician of the Year by Miller Children's and Women's Hospital Long Beach, and has been named a Southern California Super Doctor since 2014. Los Angeles Magazine named him a Top Doctor in 2018, and that same year MemorialCare Long Beach awarded him the Simply Better Employee Award. Dr. Feldman is a sought-after speaker on a variety of topics including behavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders, pediatric sleep disorders, and international adoption medicine.
