The Importance of Sleep
Although we might be led to think that staying up an extra hour will increase productivity, sleep scientists have found quite the opposite. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the average person requires 7-9 hours of sleep, and any less than that puts them in "sleep debt." This accumulated sleep loss builds up over time and makes us less alert and productive during the day.
With an abundance of electronic stimuli, caffeinated food and drink, and external stresses to offset our natural sleep rhythms, it can be easy to find ourselves lying awake at night. Studies show that 50-70 million Americans have some kind of sleep disorder, and 38% report falling asleep during the day. Our team evaluates and coordinates care for a number of different sleep conditions so that you can get the sleep you need and feel your best during the day.

Our Approach
We always begin the evaluation of sleep challenges with a consultation with our adult sleep specialist, Dr. Robert Lebby. This visit not only insures that we are providing you with the best possible service, but it is also a requirement for the sleep center to meet the highest standards of accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Lebby may recommend several next steps, one of which may include a sleep study at our state-of-the-art sleep lab facility. The studies are designed around your comfort, and administered by highly experienced sleep technicians. Afterward, the study results are critically examined by Dr. Lebby, and further recommendations will be made at a follow-up consultation.
What Is a Sleep Study?
After your sleep consultation, we may recommend that you get a sleep study. A sleep study is a non-invasive, painless evaluation of your sleep. Electrodes attached with paste monitor your brain waves, rapid eye movements, breathing patterns, respiratory efforts, oxygen levels, snoring, muscle tone and leg movements, electrocardiogram and heart rate.
Adult patients typically arrive between 8pm and 10pm and leave between 6:00 am and 8:00 am. Patients are usually with us about 9 hours. We aim to get at least 7 hours of sleep study time.

Sleep studies routinely include a digitally recorded video that enables our sleep physician to visually observe sleep position, movements, respiration and other sleep-related information. We are required to have your written consent to perform the sleep study and to record the video. This data is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which established national standards for the security and privacy of health data. Our sleep physician will review the sleep recording in conjunction with your clinical history in order to arrive at a diagnosis.
